A genuine original LV6 MT3 WD T2 SW Vintage Motorcycle Butlers Rear light lamp with side window in matt black, in the original box
Lucas and Butlers manufactured these. In this case, it was made by Butlers. The underside label states: MKR. BUTLERS LTD. CTT 6 VEH/661. PACKAGED 1.3. 54. METHOD 1. PACKER T & P CO LTD., so we can deduce from that that this lamp is just “post war”. Having said this, I have seen very similar lamps fitted to many 1930’s bikes.
The label on the top of the box states: LV6 MT3 WD T2 SW. TAIL LAMP WITH SIDE WINDOW.
Condition. Even though it has been stored in the box, it looks like someone has over-painted this is matt black. This may have been done originally, or may have been done after supply. I’ve no idea, so please look at the images. The Red reflector is in good condition and the clear lens is good (but with some black over paint that will clean off). The Mount has “3 WD-T2” stamped onto it. The bayonet fixing appears unused, but it’s worth noting that there is a nick in the wire coating about half way along and paint on the grey wire coating. Not tested. Note that I am not suggesting that this has never been fitted as the mount shows signs of a bolt fixing. It just happens to be the genuine article and comes with the original box.
So, if you’re after the genuine article for your 1950’s Triumph, BSA, Norton AJS etc, then here’s your chance.
