LUCAS AJS/Matchless used Advance and Retard Unit.
It has a 17T sprocket for SR1 magneto, rather than the usual fibre gear for other bikes / magnetos.
Condition: I have not used this advance / retard unit, but I can say that it all appears to be there. It moves as it should and it comes with the fixing disc and collar. The teeth are used but look like they stll have plenty of life in them. There is some light corrosion as shown.
Fitting note: I picked this tip up. It seems like good advice. Screw the centre bolt onto the shaft at the same time as you gently fit the unit on the taper. If you fit the unit first then attempt to tighten the bolt, it will lock up.
So, if you have an AJS or matchless vintage motorcycle that runs a Lucas SR1 magneto with chain to the advance unit, then this might be a good spare to keep.
New ones are available for around £260 plus post, so this seems like decent value.
