Monet Goyon S3G gearbox, boîte de vitesse, with clutch.
This little, 3 speed, gearbox belongs to a Monet Goyon S3G. I am not familiar with the model but I understand they were available from the very early 1940’s until some time in the late 1950’s. Essentially, the S3G was a 100cc lightweight utility motorcycle, powered by a Villiers two stroke engine.
Most of the models seem to have been equipped with a hand change, or “gear on the tank”, as some like to say. There was a model (S3G DS) that used the same gearbox but had a foot change.
Anyway, I ended up with this Monet Goyon S3G gearbox by mistake. It’s no use to me, so I have priced it sensibly.
Condition of the Monet Goyon S3G gearbox.
I haven’t used it. So, I can’t comment on how it works under power. All I can say is that it turns OK and sounds OK. There are no nasty noises, or clicks. It comes with the clutch as shown in the images. Essentially, it is sold on the understanding that it’s for renovation, even though it all seems fine.
As you can see, it does not have all of the fastenings for the front cover.
The cases are fine. There are no cracks or welds. The frame mounts are fine too.
The cases have the following numbers:
- Outer cover: 30 442
- Main case: 30 440
- The gearbox has a unique number stamped too. (Shown in the images)
If you happen to have one of these machines, It’s always useful to keep spares. At this price, it’s worth having a Monet Goyon S3G gearbox on the shelf.
What you see is what you get. I don’t have other parts like the kick start or the gear levers. But, I happen to have a T19 Cozette carburettor that may be of some use.
