Original 1939 Smiths S115 0-80 MPH speedometer, WD, War Department BSA Triumph Ariel Matchless etc.
If you are after a nice shiny refurbished Smiths speedo, then this is probably not for you. I have been holding onto this speedometer for one of my pre-war Triumph’s as I like the look of the patina. However, it is a 1939 speedo and my bikes are 1937 and earlier. So, it’s available. It will suit a survivor motorcycle as it is.
I have never run it on a bike, but it does turn.
It’s not being sold as a refurbished speedometer. If it works properly when installed, then you’ve had a result. It is being sold on the basis that it may need restoration.
The date on the back is May 1939. So, it’s just prewar. However, I imagine that it will suit a WD bike just as well as a civilian model.
