Original & refurbished 2-jet 1″ brass Binks carburettor.
1″ through flow from back to front.
It looks like a carb that was fitted to a late 1920’s Norton CS1. It may suit other machines.
I have just received this back from my professional brass carb restorer. Despite external appearances, this instrument has been completely rebuilt. The outside has retained the lovely patina, but it’s all new inside. See “condition” comment below.
This is the spigot-mount type for the Binks carb. It might suit a 1920’s Flat Tank Norton as well as other makes.
The spigot mount to the cylinder head is slightly tapered. The tapered fit is reamed out to a depth of 3/4″. It varies in diameter from 1-1/4″ to 1-3/16″.
The 1″ brass Binks carburettor comes with the float bowl, a plain float bowl cap and twin-pull top. Note that the fuel chamber is bottom feed.
The stamped numbers and letters are:
- 520PP
- 298B (The B could be an 8, but it looks like a “B” to me)
Condition of the 2-jet 1″ brass Binks carburettor.
I sent the carb off to an early brass carburettor refurbishment specialist. He has checked the bore for wear and has repaired / replaced items as necessary. It has been re-bored and has a new slide that works as it should. The carburettor comes as a working instrument. You will need to set it up correctly for your needs.
As you can see, it does not have the spring clip that holds the cap in place as the mount on the float bowl is broken. However, the cap is firmly closed. There is a very tiny ding in the top of the inlet. If I am being fussy, the gauze filter is very slightly torn (shown).
The clamp bolt works. Everything slides as it should and it has the float with a needle, as shown. It has new slides as shown.
Both jets are fitted. It even has two new fibre washers on the main bolt connection between the bowl and the carburettor body.
