Pair of Veteran & Vintage Royal Enfield motorcycle wheels Beaded edge with hubs. Wheel Dia 22.5″ approx.
I believe that this pair of veteran & vintage Royal Enfield motorcycle wheels are for the 2-stroke 200-series of Royal Enfield models. The reason that I believe these complete wheels are for the the lightweight 2-stroke Royal Enfield models, is that the rims are only 2-1/8″ wide. I am no early-Norton expert so I am not sufficiently qualified to say if the Norton Model 2 or 16H (for example), ever used 2-1/8 wide rims. So, I am sticking to Royal Enfield.
Pair of Veteran & Vintage Royal Enfield Motorcycle Wheels Beaded edge & hubs Wheel Dia 22.5" approx. For Model 200 201 201a 2 Stroke lightweight RE motorbikes

Pair of Veteran & Vintage Royal Enfield Motorcycle Wheels Beaded edge & hubs

The rear hub is Enfield cush drive type. Aside from use in Royal Enfield models, the cush drive was used by many of the veteran and vintage motorcycle manufacturers as it was considered one of the best at the time. Royal Enfield had the patent on the design anyway.  Norton, Montgomery and George Brough motorcycles, were among the manufacturers who used the patented cush drive.

The front hub has a 5” internal diameter brake hub. (No brake plate available). It looks like an early Norton front hub. The front spindle is approximately 3/8″ dia though, so it may not suit your Norton, before you get too excited.
  • Both of these rims are 53mm (2-1/8″) wide (OD) and about 575mm (22-1/2″) diameter.
  • Front wheel is 40 spokes with spindle and brake hub. No brake plate.
  • Rear is 40 spokes, with a 45T drive sprocket.
  • Rear rim has the spoke clamps for either a false brake rim or a rear one. You decide. If it is RE, then it would be a real drive rim fitted here.
  • Rims are decent under the crud but would still need spokes and a general refurb.
So, my belief is that this pair of veteran & vintage Royal Enfield motorcycle wheels are for the 2-1/4 H.P. 225cc Two-Stroke models. They started out as early as 1914, when Royal Enfield installed their first in-house 2-stroke engine. Production ran for a short while, and began again after the hostilities. There was a Ladies Model, 201 and 201A and production ran until the mid-1920’s.

Other Vintage, veteran and Antique motorcycle parts available.

My interest is in early motorcycles. As such, I keep a few spares for my own motorcycles. Like these wheels, they can be used on various motorcycles, so I usually have a few extra parts. When I think I won’t need them, I offer them to our motorcycle community. If you would like to see what is currently for sale, please see the pre-1916 parts here, and the pre-1931 parts here.
