NOW SOLD –
Small 2 Stud, 3 speed, BS Sturmey Archer lightweight vintage motorcycle gearbox with belt pulley and chain drive / clutch. I think it’s from the early 1920s. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s from 1924. 1924 was the first year for the 3-speed BS gearbox and the numbers ran up to 8,000. The number on this box is BS 4269.
This gearbox was paired with a small 1924 Connaught engine but, as it’s a Sturmey Archer, it will probably suit many other lightweight motorcycles from the 1920’s.
Condition. It’s untested but it seems to click in and out of gears. It definitely turns OK and the main case is fine. The top of the outer cover has a chip but I’m not sure it’s actually missing anything there. The inner portion of the belt pulley has rotted and collapsed.
