Smiths 0-9,000 RPM Tachometer A.T.R.C. Rev Counter – Manx Norton, G50, 7R AJS.
The most commonly known use of the ATRC competition tachometer, was in the 9000rpm c/wise dial scale form (code ATRC2652) used since 1956 to their closure in 1962 on AMC raceware…the 350 and 500 Manx Norton, the 350 7R AJS and the 500 G50 Matchless. This is not the Competition version as they had 80mm / 3″ dials. I have a 12,000 RPM one if you want a competition one. The model number for this one is RN 1104/01.
It would look great on a flat tracker or cafe racer. But it’s still very useful for classic racers.
This Smiths ATRC tacho sits in the original mount which comprises inner and outer housing rings connected by an over-sized rubber band (a large O-ring),
These are hard enough to find. They are especially difficult to find with this mount. The dial is just over 2″ and it has the correct machined ali housing. The bezel has a satin finish to reduce glare. There are marks from age on the body and mount. Please study the images. If you have any questions, please ask before you buy. Thanks.
The stated ratio on the face is 4-1 and this has a clockwise tacho face.
Does it work? Well I haven’t tested it on a motorcycle. I just tested it carefully with a drill. It works. Can I guarantee the accuracy? Er, no…
Just a reproduction of the mount alone is £60!
