SOS Motorcycle connecting rod with small end pin

  • Length is 6-3/4″ centre to centre.
  • Big end dia (approx) 1-1/2″
  • Small end dia (approx) 1/2″

This MAY NOT be for an SOS vintage motorcycle. However, the cast letters /numbers are SOS SM8152/1.

If it is for a Len Vale-Onslow “SOS” motorcycle, then it could be for anything from 1927-1939. I am not familiar with SOS motorcycles, so I did a little research.

Len started out with Villiers and JAP engines. He continued with Villers, but used his own top end later on. The last JAP engine was used in 1930. Much like Scotts, he used water-cooled engines. In his case, he used them from 1933 with 148cc, 172cc and 249cc versions. In 1934, he offered air and water cooled engines with machine models such as the “Magnetic SOS” and the “Thuderbolt SOS”. I SOS also ran models towards the end of the company timeline called KW nd SOS Brooklands.

Now, this may not nbe anything to do with SOS vintage motorcycles. The SOS casting on the conrod might be a false trail. BUT, if it is a connecting rod for a SOS motorcycle, then here’s your chance if you have one of these lovely ponies.

Condition: Reasonable. There is light scoring on the big end shell as shown. The caps have matching numbers but only one bolt. As you can see, it comes with the little end pin which has some very light corrosion. It turns in the end. The rod appears straight.
