Tan-Sad type 1920s vintage motorcycle sprung pillion seat / saddle with handle.
Tan-Sad supplied motorcycle accessories (among other things) and offered a variety of saddles for flat tank motorcycles.
Tan-Sad began life in 1922 in Birmingham and was first publicly listed as an exhibitor at the British Industries Fair, selling typists tables, constructional toys, motor cycle seats, perambulators and office and factory chairs.
I have a few of these useful accessories. Tan-Sad advertising in 1922 stated that the price included a fixed cushion. But, if you wanted handles, footrests (side or astride), or a dress-guard, you had to pay extra. This particular Tan-Sad pillion saddle is clamped to the rear rack and is quickly detached. It is shorter than the other two Tan-Sad pillion saddles. So, there’s a chance that it may not even be a Tan-Sad. Either way, it’s a nice genuine vintage accessory as an addition to your vintage bike.
Condition: It is sound. It does not have the original cover. It looks like it was re-covered quite a long time ago with older material. The frame is solid and the mattress springs under the cover are intact. It looks like the frame and main springs at the rear have been painted / restored at some point.
It has the original frame fixing clamps. They are adjustable and will suit may motorcycles with sturdy rear frames. It is quite heavy so it would suit a larger motorcycle. See the dimensions.

Over the years have collected many pillion seats, saddles and “bum pads”. I have now decided to sell almost all of them. I was keeping them in case I had a need for them on a future project but I am now thinning out my project plans.
