1920’s vintage motorcycle Brass carburettor AMAC T15 HYDM

This Amac T15 Brass carb is listed in my 1923 / 1924 AMAC parts list. The AMAC T15 HYDM is the “Touring Model” in the range. It was supplied with a bottom feed float chamber. So, this is the correct float bowl.

I am offering the carb as you see it. These AMAC T15 brass carbs are not easy to find. The condition is reflected in the price. However, if you would like me to get it fully refurbished, let me know and we can agree a price for the reconditioned version.

It was supplied for many vintage motorcycles. Typically in the 500cc and upwards range, but not exclusively.

  • 1-1/8″: OD Throttle Valve
  • 2-1/2″: Spigot length from main body upright
  • 1-1/8″: Mount stub / Spigot Inside Diameter
  • 1-1/16″: Inlet bore

If you are looking for a 1920’s vintage motorcycle brass carburettor that would have been used on many machines, then you are probably looking for an AMAC carburettor. At the time they had a variety of sizes in the range. The went from the largest (T10), through T15, T25 and T30. In 1923 / 24 they either offered four main variants:

  • H.Y.S.P was the Sporting model. It had a tube air intake and bottom feed float chamber.
  • H.X.S.P was also a Sporting model. It had a tube air intake and top feed float chamber.
  • H.Y.D.M was the Touring model. It was supplied with a mushroom air intake and bottom feed float chamber. (The Type 30 had a cap instead of the mushroom intake cover)
  • H.X.D.M. was the Touring model. It was supplied with a mushroom air intake and top feed float chamber. (The Type 30 had a cap instead of the mushroom intake cover)

This carb is supplied just as you see it- with patina. I have taken great care not to remove the patina while cleaning and inspecting the carb, as some people prefer them to look their age.

It needs springs. They are relatively easy to find. It could do with a new throttle slide. It slides fine but it has somehow been damaged on the lower curve. I have shown this in the images.

The float chamber is very clean and seems to have a recent float and needle with clip.

I have taken the carb apart so that you can see what you are buying. Unusually, the carburettor has the sought-after T15 jet block.

Other AMAC carburettors

I have a few vintage motorcycle Brass carburettors. They are mostly for mid-late 1920’s AJS and Nortons. If I have any left, they will be listed in the section titled AMAC
