Pair Veteran Vintage Rudge Multi steel mudguards
This is a set of front & rear, used, steel mudguards. I bought them in desperation as I had hoped they would do as temporary mudguards for my little Douglas 2-3/4. It turns out that the Douglas ones are much smaller.
The design is probably much later than 1911/12 as the very early front fender had riveted side valences and a rolled edge to the very front. The front edge on this one looks similar, but the front attachment bracket went over the outside on the very early mudguards. In fact, I think Rudge continued this design element until around 1923. I looked at various Rudge models from 1911 and it wasn’t until I saw a 1923 Rudge Twin 1000cc 2 cylinder side valve, when I noticed that the front stay bracket was then inside the mudguard.
I am certainly no Rudge expert. Please decide if these vintage Rudge Multi steel mudguards are what you need, before you buy.
I have no idea if these are original. I doubt it, as the steel under the paint is very clean. There is a Rudge Whitworth sticker on the rear of the back mudguard. I believe they are for a Rudge Multi. However, it’s probably best to do the thing that I didn’t do – measure before you buy. If you need any more dimensions, please ask.
Front:
- From front to back (tip to tip): 28-1/4″
- Width of front section (including flange): 3-1/2″
Rear:
- From front to back (tip to tip): 28-1/2″
- Width (including flange): 3-3/4″
The rear mudguard has the stays attached and the left side is shaped for the belt drive.
You don’t see things like these veteran / vintage Rudge Multi steel mudguards come up for sale very often. If you happen to need a pair, here’s your chance.
Condition of the Vintage Rudge Multi steel mudguards
They are used and paint has flaked off in places. Please see the images for the overall condition as there are places where the steel is a little dented.
