1920 to 1923 Vintage motorcycle 2 speed Sturmey Archer TS gearbox for lightweight flat tank motorcycles.
The number is shown in the images. The number places this little two speed Sturmey Archer gearbox as a 1922 production item. See this page for information on dating Sturmey Archer gearboxes: Sturmey Archer gearbox models and dating by numbers
The Sturmey Archer TS lightweight gearbox was supplied to a variety of vintage motorcycle makers. As the years of production only ran from 1920 to 1923, you should be able to ascertain if this might suit your bike.
Condition of the 2 speed Sturmey Archer TS gearbox
This gearbox is in decent condition. I have made a short video of the gears turning with the inspection cover removed. Please ask for it. Please take time to go through the images. The number of teeth on the drive sprocket is 20.
There are no obvious cracks and I don’t see any weld repairs. I believe that the inspection cover might have been replaced as it would have been aluminium to match the cover and main case. It fits anyway.
Please look at the images for the condition of the gears. I have not cleaned inside the box. Everything turns fine. I would still recommend taking the gearbox apart and re-assembling before you put it to use.
If you are lucky enough to have a vintage motorcycle that requires a 2 speed Sturmey Archer TS gearbox, then this is a great chance to buy a spare. You don’t see the TS boxes very often.
