1926 G3, G4, or G5 AJS Side Valve, 2-3/4 HP, 350cc engine Mostly complete excluding piston
I believe this engine would be for one of the following models:
- Model G3 DeLuxe Touring
- Model G4 DeLuxe Sporting
- Model G5 Standard Sporting
The engine number is G 54760 (S) which seems to be about right for 1926. Of course, if you have access to definitive records, I’d be very happy to put an inaccuracy right.
The engine halves have matching numbers, indicating that they have remained as a pair since original build. I have also shown an image of a matching number stamped inside the timing cover.
I have shown what the engine would look like when installed. The bike is not for sale.
The engine number plate that shows the unique number also states that it is an “AJ Stevens & Co 1914 Ltd” engine.
Condition: Selling as an engine for restoration. However, it is a very good start. From what I can see, it’s pretty complete, including the crank, connecting rod and valve gears. The fins are decent with a few small chips (as shown). It has the valve caps installed. When I turn the engine over by hand, it is smooth. The valves rise and fall too. I can hear the “clink” of the conrod, indicating that there is no piston.
I currently have another AJS 350 SV engine for the B-series and is dated around 1924/ 1925. Please see my other items.
