1932 Twin Port Calthorpe 350cc vintage motorcycle engine for rebuild

Possibly the 350cc Calthorpe Ivory Junior? I don’t have access to the Calthorpe records, so I can’t be certain. However, the number is K2/ 1523. So if you have access to the information, you can check for yourself. From my research, it appears that this is Calthorpe engine from 1932.

I have shown part numbers in the images to help you identify the engine and to make sure that it’s correct for your needs.

It needs work. There’s no dressing it up. However, apart from a piston, push rods and push rod tube, I thin it has pretty well everything else.

It turns over smoothly. It has the shock absorber fitted. the rocker box appears undamaged. A rarity on its own. The rockers will need to be freed up. It has the valves fitted.

I have shown a few pictures of inside the timing cover. It all seems to be there.

The fins are very good on the head and the barrel. There might be the odd really tiny nick but they are better than a lot of 1960’s heads that I see. The barrel bore will need a hone.

The main engine case has some nice parts. The crank is decent. It had a connecting rod. I have shown the number on the side in the pictures. It comes with the oil measure. The engine number hasn’t been altered.

There is some damage. The underside of the cases will need to be carefully filled. I suppose you could leave them as they are as there doesn’t appear to be any holes but poor storage has resulted in quite a bit of ali corrosion on the underside.

While you have your welder out, you will need to re-attach the back of the timing cover. It has suffered the usual break. The outer timing cover has a very small chunk out of it too.

There you have it. An early 1930’s Calthorpe Side Valve motorcycle engine that needs a rebuild. It’s no angel but it does have most of the parts and is a worthy cause.

Being sold super-cheap.

Other vintage motorcycle parts: I have some. Please view my other items for sale or get in touch.
