James or Francis Barnett 4-speed gearbox with Clutch Villiers
Probably ideal for a Pre-65 Trials motorcycle coupled with a Villiers engine.
The only clue I have regarding the maker of this gearbox i the cast number 041461 inside the outer cover. The gearbox came to me with a Dolls Head gearbox that I wanted at the time. I imagine that someone will instantly recognise it. I’m happy to be educated on it too.
It comes with the clutch and chainwheel fitted. Note that I haven’t tested either the gearbox or the clutch on a motorcycle. I have checked to see if it clicks through the gears. The clutch has one spring missing. The teeth on both used sprockets seem OK.
The cases have marks from years of use and they will need cleaning. But, they are free from any major damage and the threads seem fine.
