Approx 1914 – mid 1920’s original brass motorcycle sidecar lamp for vintage veteran motorcycles.
This MOTEX light is one of a number from my collection. They are all now going up for sale as I have no need for all of them.
I have a few different makers as these old carbide / acetylene gas powered motorcycle lamps have become a bit of an obsession of mine. They include, Lucas, Miller, P&H, Westwood, Hobday and Motex.
- It has a single side mounting.
- The lens diameter is 2.25″.
- The outer rim is 3.0″ diameter.
- Height overall (Top of chimney to bottom of the pipe connection is 3.5″
- Overall length is 3″
Condition of the original brass motorcycle sidecar lamp
This Motex brass motorcycle sidecar lamp is in good condition. I am not convinced that it was supplied in polished brass but it looks great as it is. If you wish to paint it, or nickel plate it, then you have the option.
The hinge and clasp for the front door work well. The chimney top is in good condition. the rivets are still fixed well. There is a very tiny ding in the chimney but it’s free of the usual major dents. Same for the body. It has a little ruby red rear lens and the wick is fitted.
The side mounting is well attached and still has a good brass fixing nut and bolt.
The only thing that is missing, is the front glass. I am selling it cheaply as it is because I will probably never get around to adding glass is I am not likely to need this lamp.

Viewing: Please come and check it over before you buy. It is at PE28, near St Ives in Cambridgeshire.
Collection: If you don’t want it shipped, I have plenty of space. If you can’t collect for a while, it’s not a problem. However, I will need to be paid very soon after the sale. Thanks.
