CAV 50 degree V-Twin magneto for vintage motorcycles.
Would px for a suitable EIC, Bosch or Dixie magneto for a 1915 2-3/4hp Douglas.
CAV magnetos started out as C.A. Vandervell and Co. They made a variety of electrical items including magnetos for motorcycles and cars. Joseph Lucas Ltd bought the company in 1926. After this, they made components for the motorcycle industry and military aircraft. Bosch merged with Lucas with the CAV products in 1931.
I have no idea if this is a Vandervell, Lucas or Lucas-Bosch. Perhaps someone can educate me?
The serial number is 6803. The end plate is also stamped “3U2”
Rotation is clockwise on the drive side.
Advance / retard fitted as shown.
Condition of the CAV 50 degree V-Twin magneto.
It is being sold as a magneto that needs rebuild. Please look at the images carefully. One of the pickups is missing. The original end cover has been replaced and will need a retaining clip to be fitted on the original post. I have shown the points in one of the pictures. It turns OK and comes with the magneto chain sprocket as shown.
It’s a 2-stud attachment and the distance between the stud fixing centres is 3-1/4″.
Other mags in addition to the CAV 50 degree V-Twin magneto.
I have a few magnetos for early vintage & veteran motorcycles. I also have one or two post-war classic motorcycle Lucas magnetos. Please see my current availability of vintage magnetos here.
