JAP 750cc (J A Prestwich) 50 degree V-Twin engine from 1927 with good compression
- +0.020 over STD.
- Matching case numbers
- EUROs accepted instead of British Pounds if you prefer.
- The engine number is clear and unmolested. (See Pics). It begins with MTS/I. MT is 750cc and I=1927.
Note on dating: The engine number is for a 1927 motor. However, the valve covers suggest that this would be a 1930’s JAP V-Twin as they didn’t have these valve covers in 1927. So, perhaps the top end is from a mid 1930’s engine. Either way, the engine is for sale as you see it. The bore and stroke is correct for a 750 JAP V-twin.
This engine cranks over nicely. As you can see in the images, the bores are very clean and the +20 pistons appear to be new. It has been well stored as it hasn’t suffered from the usual corrosion on the bottom of the cases.
I have removed the heads just to show you that the bores and pistons are as suggested here. The valves move freely when the engine is cranked over.
It comes as you see it. It has the timing cover. I removed it. The timing chain and timing wheel is there.
It has the Pilgrim pump fitted. I have not tested the pump. It’s just for sale as it is. However, everything else seems to be in good condition.
The heads have some small chips. Please see the images. One nut is missing from one of the barrel mounts.
The carb manifold may not be original. I’m not sure. It fits though. It also has the exhaust header nuts. The nuts screw on / off fine.
The drive-side looks OK. The keyway is OK and the threads are OK. They will need a clean though.
How often do you see a JAP 750cc (J A Prestwich) 50 deg V-Twin engine for sale?
I have been approached countless times over the years for a nice, usable, 1920’s JAP V-Twin engine. Some people want one for their frame / project for a brand that had a JAP V-Twin engine fitted originally. Some people just want one for a Special that they have in mind. Either way, I am willing to part with it.
See the shipping notes. This is a heavy engine. I will probably have to separate the barrels from the engine to make the packing more reasonable for the couriers.
