This Levis Popular two stroke 211cc engine is for the lightweight flat motorbikes. I have an original Levis motorcycles sales brochure from 1924. It still shows the Levis Popular Model with the same 2.11 H.P. 211cc engine. So, this engine could be anywhere between 1915 and 1924.
Levis supplied engines to many smaller veteran & vintage motorcycle manufacturers. The engine number on this one is 11454. The patent stamp suggests that it was applied for / granted in 1912. I think these engines were supplied for the Levis Popular models, and other lightweight Levis motorcycles up until the early 1920’s. This particular motor has an engine number stamped: 11454. A Levis vintage or veteran motorcycle enthusiast will probably have the engine number information to hand in order to date it. I just had to go on previous engines that I have owned, together with what is available online. However, previous engines had a letter following the number. That suggested that they were for specific customer manufacturers. Without a letter in the engine number, it suggests that this was actually for a Levis-made motorcycle.
This engine has not been tested by me. It is part of my collection of early motorcycle engines. I have a few Levis 211 cc two-stroke engines and have decided to put some up for sale to help towards parts for my Pioneer Douglas 2-3/4HP. If you happen to have parts for an early Douglas, please let me know.

Condition of the Levis Popular two stroke 211cc engine

It comes with the little magneto chain sprockets and mag chain. It turns over smoothly by hand. There is a crankshaft, connecting rod and piston (with rings). The barrel is in ok condition. It will need a good clean. The head is OK. There are two chipped fins near the spark plug hole (as shown).
The engine turns by hand. 
The piston rises and falls. I can see the top of the piston through the exhaust ports. I have shown pictures of the piston in 3 stages so that you can see it rising and falling. it also shows the piston rings are there.
The cases appear to be in good condition and there are no cracks or welds from what i can see.
