Scott Vintage Motorcycle 3 Speed hand change gearbox.
From what I can tell by the number on the casing, this is a standard 3-speed hand-change Scott motorcycle gearbox.
I think the 3-speed hand-change gearbox ran between 1924 and 1940. As I am no Scott motorcycle expert, I believe this to be the case. Let me know if you think otherwise. Here’s a little info on Scott models that utilised the early 3-speed gearboxes that I have found after some light research.
- 1924 – 1st 3 Speed gearbox on a Sports Squirrel
- 1925 – 1st 3 Speed gearbox on a Super Squirrel
- 1926 – 1st 3 Speed gearbox on the Scott Flyer
- 1926 – TT models have the 3-Speed gearbox
- 1927 – 1st 3 Speed fitted to the Flying Squirrel.
Condition: Well, it’s used and I haven’t opened it up, or used it. So, it’s available as it is. It turns fine. The main case and cover have some light, repairable, damage. I have shown this in the images. It’s where I presume someone has over-tightened the front cover and have broken the cover as well as putting a hairline crack in the case fixing hole. Sadly, they have also damaged the area where the gearbox number would have been. The rest of it seems fine.
I currently have a wide ratio version of this Scott transmission. It’s also for sale, so please ask, or check my other listings. The case design is the same and it does have a number. So, this has helped a little with year / identification.
