Sturmey Archer Competition TT lightweight vintage motorcycle gearbox

This small Sturmey Archer TT gearbox is a bit of a mystery. I have plenty of information on the TS model. As I’m not a specialist in Sturmey Archer motorcycle gearboxes, I don’t have detailed records of any boxes that they supplied for competition. All that I know is that the “TT” stamp suggests that it was a competition box.

The only reference that I can find to a TT box, is an advert for a shell only for a 3-speed version that was model type 10P. It was also a 2-stud box.

It’s 2-stud. So, it’s for early machines up to about mid 1920’s. The sequential number is 559. If it helps, there is a tiny stamp on the case, just behind the pulley that says “0.13”.

Condition: I’ve not used it. I can confirm that it turns by hand and doesn’t make any horrible noises when I turn it.

The casing is intact. It doesn’t have cracks but it does have a ding in the side of casing. It is supplied with the belt pulley as shown. It’s dirty, but decent. The pulley will need a little bending into shape with some heat.

BUYING NOTES

Shipping:

  • International shipping available. Please ask.
  • Combined shipping available if you buy other parts.
  • I usually ship to most destinations. If you don’t see a price, please ask. Shipping is in addition to the listed price for the item.

Viewing: Please come and check it over before you buy. It is at PE28, near St Ives in Cambridgeshire.

Collection: If you don’t want it shipped, I have plenty of space. If you can’t collect for a while, it’s not a problem. However, I will need to be paid very soon after the sale. Thanks.

Payment: This site has a facility to pay online. Good old fashioned money on collection is preferred. I can accept payment through PayPal or by bank transfer as well.

Import Taxes: Please note that IMPORT DUTIES are not something I can control. If you are buying from outside the UK, there is a chance that you will have to pay import taxes. Import taxes vary from country to country. If there are charges to pay, it is the buyer’s responsibility to research the cost and pay the duties. The price that you see on my advert is for the item and not the item plus whatever taxes might be due.
