1952 Iron Head Pre Unit Triumph T100 engine for rebuild – SOLD

SOLD

1952 Iron Head Pre Unit Triumph T100 engine for rebuild.

This is a fairly early pre-unit T100 500cc motor needing a general rebuild. It is a good unit to start with as the cases are in good condition, the barrels are decent internally and the fins on the barrels are good, with the exception of one fin broken at the top under the LH carb inlet. The head is an 8-stud item with just the old valves fitted. There are no valve springs or collets. The iron head has one fin chipped on the left outer side, close to the spark plug hole.

Although there are push rod tubes, there are no push rods. It does have the cam followers and timing gear, together with an oil pump. The pistons are +0.040 but without piston rings.

I’ve been asked for more detailed pictures of the cylinder head and barrels on the 1952 T100 Pre unit engine that’s currently for sale.

  • The pistons are Plus 40
  • The barrels are nice and clean

The only damage that I can see is:

1. One side fin broken between the LH spark plug hole and the exhaust spigot (shown in pics)

2. Barrel has a very small nick out of the skirt. No crack.

3. Barrel has a broken fin on the top.

Fixings. Many of the fixings such as the cylinder head bolts, timing cover machine screws and barrel nuts are missing. You can see there are no round caps for the rocker covers. I have enough to supply 4 matching used ones.

The motor number dates it to 1952, so this engine is not the big bearing type.

It would be great on an authentic rigid Triumph with patina, or would nicely suit a nimble green-laner once rebuilt.

See Triumph engine and frame number data here, together with model info.
