Albion Heavyweight HEL gearbox, Clutch and Reduction gearbox for workshop.
Well 4 speed Albion gearboxes seem to be a bit of a mystery to most people, including me. I have had this for a while now and haven’t used it. I have done a little research and, it seems, that Albion made many variations of the heavyweight gearbox. I can find out about most of the motorcycle variations, but the HEL model seems to be a bit of a mystery.
I suspect that a few Vincent Grey Flash people might be interested in this for parts as Albion made a few variations that suit the Vincent. Obviously, the mounts were different, but I am on about the gears. Suitable fo the Grey Flash were:
- HDR – Close Ratio 4 speed without kickstart.
- HCL – Normal gearing, Aluminium case, with kickstart.
- HX – 4 Speed with kickstart.
Separately from Vincent, Albion made for Royal Enfield. They also made a 3 speed with a reverse gear (HJR).
Anyway, It’s none of those.
This gearbox looks like it was used for light industrial. What sets it apart from other HEL gearboxes? Well, as you can see, it’s already set up with a clutch, sprockets, reduction gearbox and top pulley.
It all seems to move smoothly enough.
It’s a heavy thing, so it’s probably best suited to UK shipping only. If you are outside UK and are desperate for it, be prepared for a big shipping bill. I only charge what It costs.
