Pre Unit Triumph 5T 500cc Twin engine for sale in good condition.
The fins are nice. It has the single carb mount and would be ideal for a project with a little patina. The engine number is clear and reads 5T 74242. The case halves have matching numbers.
To be clear, the case numbers match the year 1956, but the engine is likely 1950 or earlier. So, like many of these engines, it’s a mix of parts over the years.
The engine is in good overall condition. The crank turns. I have not tested the engine, nor have I taken it apart, so assume that you will need to break it down to check it over. Some small parts may be missing (That’s not code for “things are missing”. I’m just covering myself and managing expectations). When I turn the crank by hand, it is smooth and makes the right noises.
Having said all of that, I have opened the rocker caps and turned the crank. The valves and rockers all work as they should. The pistons rise and fall too. I don’t know what the bore size is as I haven’t taken the cylinder head off.
Not that it matters, but the timing cover states “Tiger 100” rather than Speed Twin for the 5T. Just being clear. Also, this is still an engine for rebuild, rather than being sold as “rebuilt”. If it had been rebuilt it would be offered at a lot more money.
Viewing: Please come and check it over before you buy. It is at PE28, near St Ives in Cambridgeshire.
Shipping: I usually ship to most destinations. If you don’t see a price, please ask. Thanks. International shipping available.
Collection: If you don’t want it shipped, I have plenty of space. If you can’t collect for a while, it’s not a problem. However, I will need to be paid very soon after the sale. Thanks.
Payment: Good old fashioned money on collection is preferred. I can accept payment through PayPal or by bank transfer as well.
Import Taxes: (I need to mention this as I had someone buy something from me and they were based in Europe. They thought I should list the item including all taxes and shipping. Considering import duties vary enormously, this is impractical even if it was possible). Please note that IMPORT DUTIES are not something I can control. If you are buying from outside the UK, there is a chance that you will have to pay import taxes. Import taxes vary from country to country. If there are charges to pay, it is the buyer’s responsibility to research the cost and pay the duties. The price that you see on my advert is for the item and not the item plus whatever taxes might be due.
However, if you decide to pay me by some other way (bank transfer for example), I can lower the import tax that you are likely to pay.
