1956 Triumph TR6 Trophy rebuilt sprint engine with Magneto and TWIN float SU carburettor.

1956 was the first year for the Pre Unit Triumph TR6 Trophy. They are very sought after. If you’re reading this, you will likely already know that.

I bought this engine off a friend. He had rebuilt it ready for sprint racing and had never used it. A glance down the plug holes confirmed this as the top of the pistons are shiny and completely clean.

As you can see, he built some ‘tie-downs” for the engine as he had planned to put some sort of blower arrangement on it. It comes with the adapted timing cover, a shiny K2F magneto and the nice SU carburettor with twin float bowls. They were occasionally supplied with SU’s back in the day. But having a twin bowl set up is a great addition.

I had plans for this engine (along with a slickshift gearbox that I am also selling separately. However, I have now sold the pre-unit 6t / 5t, TR5 / TR6, swing arm frame.

This is a specialist engine, so please don’t ask me “what your best price”. The price is the price. It includes the carb and mag.

Although it hasn’t been run, the paint on the head and barrel will need to be re-done. It’s a bit flaky on the primary side. The engine has been stored in dry conditions and has been bunged-up.

For the observant, it has an iron head and barrel. My friend told me that there was less likelihood of it blowing itself to pieces with iron, rather than a close fin ali head and barrel.

The engine number is shown in the images. It dates to 1956. The engine cases also have matching halves.

So, if you want a really special engine for your project, then this 1956 Triumph TR6 Trophy rebuilt sprint engine might be the one. The bonus is that it comes with the Magneto and TWIN float SU carburettor.
